Summer time blues

Summer is here in Wisconsin and so much to pack in during the short season. Gardening, fishing, hiking, swimming, biking and road trips are a few of the fun things. All of these activities can leave you in pain. Acupuncture is most commonly known for being used for pain issues but did you know it can help you with so much more? Some of the summer stuff it can help with is dealing with the heat. Do you overheat easily or suffer actually illness from the sun or heat? Acupuncture and herbs can help with that. Need to lose a little weight to fit into those more revealing clothes summer brings out like a swimsuit. Acupuncture and herbs can help with weight loss and motivation to change habits. Everyone is happy around you but you are anxious or depressed yes acupuncture and herbs can help with that. Too tired for all the fun? I can help you get more energy to do all those fun things Wisconsin has to offer this time of year. No fun to go on vacation if you are too tired to do anything. Eating lots of summer time treats and the stomach just not handling it? Acupuncture and herbs are great for lots of digestive issues. Recently there have been a few deaths from addictions issues in the SW Wisconsin rural communities I serve. The NADA protocol which I have taken extra training in can be a lifeline to those struggling with addiction issues. It needs to be along with counseling for the best result. Give me a call if you are not sure acupuncture could help your summer time blues or not. No charge to ask. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. I can also suggest where to look for help if I am not the best option for your unique issue. Have a great summer.

Weight loss and acupuncture

I was recently asked if acupuncture and Chinese medicine can it help me lose weight? Yes it can especially with daily herbal therapy for the underlying reason you have gained weight. There is however no magic pill out there for long term weight loss. There are many pyramid schemes out there now to give you spectacular weight loss with no changes in your life on your part. I can guarantee you they will not work long term and many have dangerous levels of things like caffeine. There is only one magic way to lose weight. Increase your activity and consume less calories. How you do this is certainly varied and works better if you pick a diet that matches your preferences and constitution. Acupuncture can help you with willpower, sugar cravings, metabolic rate, losing extra fluid but its not going to help you if you continue living the life you are currently gaining weigh on. I like taking herbal formulas and having acupuncture when I’m trying to lose weight because it keeps my weight loss steady. I don’t hang on to the extra fluid while losing weight making that scale say the same thing every day. That can really be depressing. I also am a stress eater and ear acupuncture and using ear seeds can really help with the stress that makes some of us eat. Some of us have very active metabolic rates and some of us are slugs. Acupuncture and herbal formulas can help speed up a sluggish metabolism. Sometimes people chose the wrong foods looking for nutrients missing from their diet. Missing certain essential fatty acids are a leading cause of people overeating in this manner. Another great thing that helps people lose weight is keeping a food diary. People who write down the exercise they do and the foods they eat are more successful. Its a pain for many of us but it has been shown to help people lose and keep off weight. What diet is best? Well it depends on your constitution and preferences. Many people benefit from programs of support like weight watchers. Other people don’t like groups. Some people do great on low-carb or low calorie diets and others just can’t. Feel free to call me or email me at to set up a free consultation to see if I can help you with your weight loss goals. Be sure to talk to your primary care provider too. They may have some cautions or suggestions to help you as well. You should always talk with them before starting an exercise program especially if you are really out of shape, older, or very heavy. I recently went to a Standard Process seminar and have some suggestions for some good nutritional supplements that might help you as well. I recently lost about 100 pounds so you can ask me how I did that. I know how it is to struggle with weight loss and regaining weight that you keep losing and gaining back. Its a complex issue.

Having pain now that it is cold?

Colder weather is here in Wisconsin. Many people with chronic pain issues have increased pain in cold weather. Its also hunting season and we sometimes over do it getting up into that tree stand and hiking around looking for that buck of a lifetime. Acupuncture is known best for its ability to relieve pain. There also are a lot of Chinese pain herbal formulas and topicals that are very helpful. I use all three for my chronic knee pain from osteoarthritis. Give me a call or email me at to see if I can help you with any pain issues you might have.

What’s new at Circle Acupuncture

Its been an interesting year. My mother-in-law passed away and I was busy with tying up loose ends and traveling to Florida. I also started a new job at Vernon Manor in Viroqua as a Registered Nurse. I was working many hours learning to be a nursing home nurse and Circle Acupuncture was not really operating. My hours at work are now reduced and I no longer have to run to Florida so time to focus on Circle Acupuncture. It is a perfect time for this business to grow as the Spring returns to a cycle of growth too. I will have more hours available at the clinic. I’m always willing to show you around the office and discuss if my services can help you. Most people think acupuncture is just for pain but its way more than that. Actually my favorite thing is to help people not get sick and to function at the highest level they can in body, mind and spirit. Lots of people don’t realize that I don’t always use needles to help restore balance. There are many ways herbs and Chinese medicine can help you without the use of needles. I have cupping, moxa, herbs, oils, lasers, and electric stimulators to help as well. I never charge to have you come and see the office and talk to me. I’m happy to meet and talk to you at a good time for both of us. I have evening and weekend hours as well. For those unable to get to the clinic or have mobility issues I may be able to even do a home visit. Give me a call and we can discuss your special needs.

Good to be home

First I must apologize for being away from the office. My 97 year old mother-in-law was in a crisis situation in Florida. She required my nursing knowledge and help restoring her home to a safe environment. Unfortunately it came right after my open-house and advertising so that many of you tried to come in for appointments or consultations and I was not available. The good news is that I was able to get a lot done in a short time and she is in a cleaner and safer environment. Everything came together amazingly well and she has good caregivers through Cornerstone Hospice watching over her so nothing will happen like this again. I even got a great housekeeper/CNA who comes in once a week to clean and make sure mom is ok. I feel blessed. While there I only brought my stimulus pro pen and a couple of lasers. While staying at the local hotel I was able to treat several Spanish speaking railroad workers for injuries sustained on the job and rashes from poison ivy. The blue laser worked so well on rashes and a sprained ankle. The neighbor who alerted us to the problems of our relative had been suffering from sciatica since November. I treated her with ear acupuncture using the stimulus pro which uses a mild electrical stimulus and the blue laser on sciatica treatment points. She had never had acupuncture before and being a hospital administer wasn’t too sure about acupuncture at all. Her pain was so bad she was willing to try anything. She has been pain free since my one time treatment. Even I was surprised that I could get such good results without needles.

So again my apologies for being absent but it was for a good reason. Family is important and I felt a strong duty to come to my mother-in-law’s rescue. I am back now and ready to be of service. Hope to see you soon.
